Welcome

Welcome to the Our Climate Our Health campaign! This is a great place to start if you want to learn more or become more involved in bringing positive change in relation to the health impacts of climate change.

More and more Australians are recognising that climate change will bring negative impacts on our health, particularly for people with chronic health conditions, older Australians and young children.

When we join together we can bring about powerful and lasting change.

Our campaign calls on the federal government to develop a National Strategy on Climate Health and Well-being. It is leading the way in addressing the current and future health impacts of climate change.

The Climate and Health Alliance has spearheaded this campaign in collaboration with leading health stakeholders. We kicked it off with a Discussion Paper, we've held online discussion forums, conducted nation-wide surveys, and held roundtable discussions with parliamentarians. We've developed a Framework for a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia which has overwhelming support from the health sector. Now, we are working to gather support in the federal and state/territory parliaments for this strategy to protect and promote the health of the Australian community.

The Australian Labor Party, the Greens, Dr Kerryn Phelps, Zali Steggall, Andrew Wilkie and a number of other independents have committed to supporting the development of a national strategy to address the looming threat of climate change to our health.

Labor have also committed, if elected, to implementing a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia based on the Framework we developed.

To date, there has been no such commitment from the Coalition.
