Subject: Please make a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being a top priority in your National Policy Platform!

Dear ALP Leaders and Shadow Ministers,

I write to you out of concern for the health and well-being of the Australian community in relation to climate change.

We are already experiencing significant impacts from climate change in Australia and this is adversely affecting the health of the community and impacting on the health care system.

We know that current Australian and international carbon reduction commitments are inadequate to limit global warming to a safe level.

Action to urgently reduce the production of greenhouse gases and shift to clean renewable low emissions energy sources is needed.

We should be redirecting existing subsidies from fossil fuels to clean, safe, renewable energy resources and technologies.

The protection of the health and wellbeing of the community must be paramount.

The Paris Agreement obliges the Australian Government to consider its citizen's 'right to health' in its national climate change response.

A National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being is needed. Health groups from across Australia have developed a Framework for a National Strategy on Climate, Health and Well-being for Australia - available here: http://www.caha.org.au/national-strategy-climate-health-wellbeing

I call on you to commit to developing and implementing this Strategy as a top priority in the next Parliament. This will be a core issue for me when it comes to voting in the next federal election.

I ask that you personally champion the development of this Strategy and ensure that Labor makes it a top policy priority in its National Policy Platform.

I would be grateful if you could advise what steps you take to address the above. Yours sincerely,
[Your Name]
