WEBINAR: Climate and Health at COP24

Lessons from Katowice and moving forward to Chile

Climate and health-related research, concerns and campaigns are gaining more traction globally every year. This Webinar will be facilitated by Climate and Health Alliance Executive Director, Fiona Amstrong and will feature experts on climate change and health who attended the 24th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP24) in Katowice, Poland. The speakers, detailed below, will share insights on behalf of the health delegation at COP24.

COP25 will be held in Chile later this year and future opportunities and strategies to influence the global climate policy agenda need to be front and centre.

 

Speakers include:

Professor Melissa Haswell: Professor Haswell conducts research on and teaches environmental health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health at Queensland University of Technology. She has led many research projects and authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications. She is affiliated with Doctors for the Environment Australia and Public Health Association Australia.

Dr Linda Selvey: Dr Selvey is highly respected professionally and personally within the field of public health and climate change in Queensland and nationally. She was the Executive Director of Population Health Queensland and was formerly CEO of Greenpeace Australia Pacific. Dr Selvey is currently the Division Head of Disease Prevention and Control and the University of Queensland and is aPresident of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine. She attended COP24 on behalf of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Rashmi Venkatraman: Ms Venkatraman is a public health professional, with experience working in primary health care, international public health and not for profit sectors on various health projects, programs, policy and advocacy. She was selected for Homeward Bound, which brought together female leaders in STEMM to focus on leadership and climate action culminating in a 21 day expedition to Antarctica. She is a Doctor of Public Health candidate.
